This specimen was lot 87 in Sincona sale 88 (Zürich, May 2024), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,
"IRAN, Afsharid Dynasty, Adel Shah, 1160-1161 AH (1747-1748). Abbasi 1161 AH (1748), Isfahan Mint. Sehr selten, Sehr schön-vorzüglich, Leicht gereinigt; Very rare. Very fine-extremely fine. Lightly cleaned. Purchased from Moussesian, Munich, in 1988."
Nader Shah's assassination in AH 1160 left no clear successor and his sons and nephews contended for the throne backed by shifting tribal alliances. Adel Shah, ruler AH 1160-1161, yielded to Ibrahim in AH 1161-1162. This denomination was struck for Adel Shah in Isfahan (shown here), Qazvin, Shiraz, Tabriz and Herat.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 4.6 g, silver, this specimen 4.62 g.
Catalog reference: Album 2760. KM 402.2, Farahbakhsh 244-5.
