This specimen was lot 21354 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Las Vegas, August 2020), where it sold for $2,640. The catalog description[1] noted, "IRAN. 5 Shahi, AH 1160 (1747). Tabriz Mint. Sam Mirza. PCGS AU-55 Gold Shield. Type A rectangular flan. A VERY RARE issue that seldom appears on the market especially so in this state of preservation offering a good strike with satiny fields. The tops of the devices are a bit bright from light handling consistent for the grade with light attractive mottled tone in the protected areas. A neat issue certain to pique the interest advance collectors sure to see spirited bidding." Altho the Afsharids conquered Iran in the early eighteenth century, succession struggles meant that there was no peace. This five shahi was issued in Tabriz by a shortlived usurper.
