This specimen was lot 2960 in Stephen Album sale 39 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2021), where it sold for $264. The catalog description[1] noted, "MUGHAL: Aurangzeb, 1658-1707, AR rupee, Makhsusabad, AH1116 year 48, About VF, R, ex Fuller Collection." The Mughal Empire dominated India during the seventeenth century but broke up in the eighteenth century under external attack, Hindu rebellion and civil war. This collapse allowed European colonizers entry into the subcontinent and eventual British control. This type was struck regnal years 44, 48-49. The type is listed for over one hundred mints.
Recorded mintage: unknown but a rare mint.
