Steve Album sale 51, lot 653

This specimen was lot 653 in Steve Album Auction 51 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2025), where it sold for $216. The catalog description[1] noted, "MUGHAL: Shah Jahan I, 1628-1658, AR rupee, Akbarabad, AH1042 year 5, this type struck only at Akbarabad in AH1041 and 1042 year 4 and 1042 year 5; 4 examples on Zeno, all from different sets of dies; 3 testmarks, bold strike, XF, RRR. The only example on CoinArchives was rough Fine condition, sold at Baldwin's Auction 47, lot 725, in 2006." The emperor Shah Jahan is today remembered for erecting the Taj Mahal for his wife. The SCWC lists only AH 1042, year 5, for this uncommon type.

Catalog reference: KM-A227, Zeno-319364 (same obverse die, reverse die has the date 1042 in a different location).
