from the Stack's Bowers February 2025 Collectors Choice, lot 10078
SB225-10078r.jpg

This specimen was lot 10078 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2025), where it sold for €216 (about US$225). The catalog description[1] noted, "DENMARK. Hvid, 1602. Copenhagen Mint. Christian IV. NGC AU-55. Lovely toning. From the L. E. Bruun Collection." This type was struck 1602 only and was worth 1/192 of a speciedaler. Varieties exist. Christian IV (r. 1588-1648) had a long but only moderately successful reign. His war with Sweden and his intervention in the Thirty Years War were costly and brought little gain.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 0.71 g, 0.093 fine silver, 16.2 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM-9; Hede-86; Sieg-5; Schou-12; Bruun-4638.
