This specimen was lot 5790 in Künker sale 354 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €1,700 (about US$2,366 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"HENNEBERG, GRAFSCHAFT, Gemeinschaftlich sächsischer Anteil. Reichstaler 1700, Ilmenau. Ausbeute der Gruben in Ilmenau. Feine Patina, fast vorzüglich. (Germany, county of Henneberg, joint Saxon rule, thaler of 1700, Ilmenau mint, for the Ilmenau mines. Fine patina, about extremely fine.)"
The counts of Henneberg fell extinct in 1580, after which the county was co-ruled by various Saxon dukes. In this period, the rulers were Saxe-Gotha and Saxe-Weimar. This type was struck 1700-02, the issues of 1701 and 1702 are catalogued as Dav-2726.
