Sincona sale 93, lot 1052

The first specimen was lot 1433 in Stack's Bowers ANA auction (Chicago, August 2014), where it did not sell. The catalog description^[1] noted, "RUSSIA. 1/4 Kopek, 1731. Anna (1730-40). NGC MS-63 BN. Nice strike and even toning. A few hints of mint luster in devices." The second specimen was lot 1052 in Sincona sale 93 (Zurich, October 2024), where it did not sell. The catalog description^[2] noted,

"RUSSLAND Kaiserreich und Föderation, Anna, 1730-1740, Polushka 1731/0, Red Mint. NGC XF45 BN."

This type is noted for 1730-54 and is common thru very fine. The polushka or quarter kopek was the smallest denomination.

Recorded mintage: unknown but more common than later dates issued in the millions.

Specification: copper, 4.1 g. The second specimen is 4.13 g.

Catalog reference: KM-187; Bit-309. The second specimen is Diakov 6, Bitkin 308.
