This specimen was lot 71 in Sincona sale 88 (Zurich, May 2024), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,

"IRAN, Afsharid Dynasty, Nader Shah, as king, 1148-1160 AH (1735-1747). 2 Rupi 1152 AH (1739), Lahore Mint. Äusserst selten, Gutes sehr schön, Leicht gereinigt, Schrötlingsfehler; Extremely rare. Good very fine. Lightly cleaned. Flan flaw. Purchased from M. Saffar, London, in 2013."

Nadir Shah was the power behind the throne in the last years of the Safavids. Finally, he tired of ruling thru puppets and seized the throne for himself in AH 1148. This silver douple rupi (20 shahi) was minted after he proclaimed himself shah. It was also struck at Kabul, Mashhad, Multan, Nadirabad, Peshawar and Qandahar. Lahore is now in Pakistan but was then under Afsharid rule.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 23 g, silver, this specimen 22.78 g.
