This specimen was lot 30944 in Heritage sale 3081 (New York, January 2020), where it sold for $5,520. The catalog description[1] noted, "Iran: Muhammad Reza Pahlavi gold 10 Pahlavi MS 2535 (1976) MS64 NGC. Struck to commemorate the 50th year of Pahlavi rule. Premium for its grade with clear lustrous fields and appealing lemon-gold color. Accompanied by its leather case of issue. AGW 2.3541 oz." The shah was overthrown in 1979 and he died the next year. This massive coin, a reflection of the shah's megalomania, extolled the fiftieth anniversary of Pahlavi rule.
