This specimen was lot 15437 in Stack's Bowers Baltimore sale (Baltimore, March 2016), where it sold for $1,762.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Fontana, California. $5 1929 Ty. 1. Fr. 1800-1. The First NB. Charter #12976. Fine. This San Bernardino County bank wasn't chartered until August of 1926 and didn't issue notes until the small size era began, issuing a total of just $151,830. The Type-1 $5 offered here spent considerable amount of time traveling the channels of commerce. However, bold inks and plenty of paper body remain. A small tear is seen at the top right edge."
