Künker sale 400, lot 322

This specimen was lot 322 in Künker sale 400 (Berlin, February 2024), where it sold for €4,000 (about US$5,189 including buyer's fees). The catalog description^[1] noted,

"RÖMISCH-DEUTSCHES REICH, Ferdinand II. 1592-1618-1637. Dukat 1610, Graz. Prägung als Erzherzog. GOLD. Seltener Jahrgang. Feine Goldpatina, fast vorzüglich. Exemplar der Auktion H. D. Rauch 106, Wien 2018, Nr. 1236. (Holy Roman Empire, Ferdinand II, 1592-1618-1637, ducat of 1610, Graz mint, struck while archduke. Rare date, fine gold patina, about extremely fine.)"

This type was struck at Graz 1598-1600 and 1608-18. Other ducats for 1610 include KM 109 struck for the emperor Matthias. Ferdinand became emperor himself on Matthias' death in 1619 and vigorously prosecuted the Thirty Years War against the Protestants.
