This specimen was lot 3754 in Goldberg sale 85 (Los Angeles, June 2015), where it sold for $153. The catalog description[1] noted, "German States: Saxe-Weimar. Taler, 1586. Friedrich Wilhelm I and Johann III, 1573-1602. Facing bust on both sides. Mounted. About Very Fine." This one year type is not rare but is less common than the later Dav-9774. This branch of the Saxon dukes fell extinct in 1605. The division of Erfurt in 1572 permanently splintered Ernestine Thuringia into fragments which were not reunited until the establishment of the Weimar Republic in 1920.
