This type was struck 1984-88 and honors the hero of the resistance to the French invasion, Benito Juarez. The stress of inflation in the 1980's as Mexico squandered her oil bonanza caused many coin types to come and go. This type was also struck in stainless steel (KM 495a) 1988-92.

Recorded mintage: 210,000,000.

Specification: 8.6 g, copper-nickel, 23.5 mm diameter.
