This specimen was lot 2075 in Goldberg's NY International sale 59 (New York, January 2023), where it sold for $960. The catalog description[1] noted, "5 Kopecks 1788 MM. “M M” at sides of the eagle. Overstruck on a 1762 10 Kopecks with snippets of the undertype visible. Very rare. A most pleasing example. Extremely fine." This type was struck 1763-96 in the Ekaterinburg mint for circulation in Russia during the reign of Catherine the Great. This type was struck at this mint 1763-68 and 1788-89.
