Russia 1788-MM 2 kopeks
This specimen was lot 118 in Sincona sale 65 (Zürich, October 2020), where it sold for 275 CHF (about US$362 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"2 Kopecks 1788, Red Mint, MM. Overstruck on 2 Kopecks 1762. Rare. 8 roubles according to Petrov. 3 roubles according to Ilyin. Very fine. (2 копейки 1788, Красный МД, ММ. Перечекан 2 копеек 1762. 19,45 г. Герасимов 147. Биткин ср. 536 (R1). Редкие. 8 рублей по Петрову. 3 рубля по Ильину. Состояние очень хорошее.)"
This example was overstruck on an earlier two kopeks. The regular issue was struck 1763-67, 1788-89, 1795 at Moscow and also Ekaterinburg, Izhora, Feodesia and Annensk.
