This specimen was lot 33345 in Heritage sale 3064 (Chicago, April 2018), where it sold for $528. The catalog description^[1] noted, "Tuscany. Ferdinand I Piastre 1594 XF40 NGC. A lovely Piastre type from the reign of Ferdinand I with aged obverse toning and lighter silver reverse toning and a striking dark amber color highlight at the bottom. Light adjustment marks are noted across the image of the reverse but do not impact eye appeal. A scarce chance to acquire this type!" After the Florentine republic collapsed, it was reconstituted as the Grand Duchy of Tuscany, ruled by the Medicis until 1723. The type is listed in Davenport for 1588-96. Like most Italian crowns of the sixteenth century, it is rare, but it is the most available piastra from sixteenth century Tuscany.
