This specimen was part of lot 22116 in Ponterio sale 169 (Baltimore, November 2012), where it sold for $658. The catalog description[1] noted, "CHILE. 1/2, 1 Decimo, 20 Centavos, 1878-1893. KM-136.2, 137.2, 138.2. 3 pieces in lot. All NGC MS 66, the 20 Centavos with incredible multicolored toning." This type was struck 1867-81 and is readily available in grades up to AU; choice uncirculated specimens are occasionally seen. In 1879, the silver was lowered to .500 fine and struck in that form until 1894.
Recorded mintage: 306,000.
