This specimen was part of lot 20797 in Heritage sale 3010 (Boston, August 2010). The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic gold Proof Set 1970, KM195-199, the 50, 100, 200, 500 and 1000 Colones struck for various commemorative occasions, deep cameo Proofs with very slight handling. A massive set and seldom offered in the market. AGW 7.9775 oz." This coin honored Costa Rican educator Jesus Jimenez. The other gold coins in the series honored human rights (KM 195), indigenous art (KM 196), hero Juan Santamaria (KM 197) and the 150th anniversary of independence (KM 199), along with a series of lower denominations struck in silver.
