The specimen shown is one of a series struck 1864-76 at the Lima mint. There are many varieties and subtypes of this basic design and later issues were emitted 1879-97 and 1914-16. The mintage of this date is not recorded but later issues were in the millions. All varieties listed in the SCWC note the overdate 1864/54, but variations exist in the assayer's initial ("Y.B." vs. "YB") and the presence or absence of the engraver's initials "R-B" in the stems of the wreath.

Recorded mintage: unknown; common.
