from the Stack's Bowers 2018 NYINC sale, lot 12302
Colombia SB118-12302r.jpg

This specimen was lot 12302 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2018), where it sold for $1,680. The catalog description[1] noted, "COLOMBIA. 1876 20 Pesos. Bogotá mint. AU Detail — Cleaned (PCGS). A rarity in this series, here showing perfectly smooth surfaces and exceptional visual appeal. Somewhat hairlined and a bit bright, but free of marks or other problems. Even medium yellow gold. From the Eldorado Collection of Colombian and Ecuadorian Coins." This type was struck at Bogotá 1862-77, Medellin 1867-72 and Popayán 1863-78. Despite the steady issue, the type is rare and expensive. This overdate is accompanied by a plain date.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 32.26 g, 0.900 fine gold, .933 troy oz AGW.

Catalog reference: Restrepo M336.12, Fr-99; KM 142.1.
