Colombia 1876-B 20 pesos
This specimen was lot 12302 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2018), where it sold for $1,680. The catalog description[1] noted, "COLOMBIA. 1876 20 Pesos. Bogotá mint. AU Detail — Cleaned (PCGS). A rarity in this series, here showing perfectly smooth surfaces and exceptional visual appeal. Somewhat hairlined and a bit bright, but free of marks or other problems. Even medium yellow gold. From the Eldorado Collection of Colombian and Ecuadorian Coins." This type was struck at Bogotá 1862-77, Medellin 1867-72 and Popayán 1863-78. Despite the steady issue, the type is rare and expensive. This overdate is accompanied by a plain date.
