This specimen was lot 23333 in Heritage sale 3024 (Chicago, April 2013), where it sold for $3,055. The catalog description[1] noted, "Maria I gold 6400 Reis 1796-B, MS63 NGC, very bright and attractive, a choice example from the Bahia Mint with full mint brilliance." This type was struck 1789-1805 and is among the more available colonial gold coins of Brazil, altho Bahia mint issues tend to be scarce.

Recorded mintage: 11,000.

Specification: 14.34 g, 0.917 fine gold, .423 troy oz AGW.
