Great Britain 1875 half crown

Heritage sale 3029, lot 30706

This specimen was lot 30706 in Heritage sale 3029 (New York, January 2014), where it sold for $646.25. The catalog description^[1] noted, "Victoria Halfcrown 1875, MS63 NGC. An attractive example, with deep toning along the edges, and with luster in the center. A few minor marks on the obverse. The reverse is stunning!" The type was struck for circulation 1874-87 and features the bust of the young queen Victoria. A similar bust was used 1839-50. The bust strongly resembles the one used on the crown but the half crown was issued in much larger numbers.

Recorded mintage: 1,113,000 plus proofs.
