Heritage sale 3067, lot 34162

This specimen was lot 34162 in Heritage sale 3067 (Long Beach, September 2018), where it sold for $528. The catalog description^[1] noted, "Great Britain: William & Mary Farthing 1694 MS62 Brown NGC. Though somewhat weakly struck, as is fully expected for the type, there is no doubt that the piece has fully retained its original detail, the surfaces unchanged save for the charming metallic tone that has developed over the centuries." Tin farthings were attempted under James II 1685-87 and again under William III 1689-92. Tin halfpence were a similar failure. Subsequent issues were copper, a much more stable metal. A few presentation strikes exist in silver.
