This specimen was lot 73258 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2022), where it sold for $216. The catalog description[1] noted, "BULGARIA. 25 Leva, 1981. Sofia Mint. PCGS PROOF-69 Deep Cameo. Commemorating 1300 Years of Bulgarian Identity. Radiantly lustrous, this charming and nearly flawless example beautifully accentuates the symbolism so deeply associated with Bulgaria, Madonna and Child, with a good strike and great cameo nature." This NCLT was accompanied by a fifty leva. The commemorative five leva struck earlier in the decade was abandoned as inflation began to bite.
