This specimen was lot 73258 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2022), where it sold for $216. The catalog description[1] noted, "BULGARIA. 25 Leva, 1981. Sofia Mint. PCGS PROOF-69 Deep Cameo. Commemorating 1300 Years of Bulgarian Identity. Radiantly lustrous, this charming and nearly flawless example beautifully accentuates the symbolism so deeply associated with Bulgaria, Madonna and Child, with a good strike and great cameo nature." This NCLT was accompanied by four different fifty leva. The commemorative five leva struck earlier in the decade was abandoned as inflation began to bite.
