Sincona sale 59, lot 3060

This specimen was lot 3060 in Sincona sale 59 (Zurich, October 2019), where it sold for 17,000 CHF (about US$20,589 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SWITZERLAND | Bern | Stadt und Kanton, 3 Dukaten 1772, Bern. Variante mit Laubrand. Sehr selten. NGC MS62+. Prachtvolle Erhaltung. (Switzerland, canton of Bern, triple ducat of 1772, Bern mint, variety with laurel wreath. Very rare, Magnificent condition.)"

This issue is rare even by the standard of Swiss gold. This specimen realized double the catalog value.

Specification: 10.50 g, .986 fine gold, this specimen 10.33 g.
