Sincona sale 39, lot 4557

This specimen was lot 4557 in Sincona sale 39 (Zurich, May 2017), where it sold for 4,250 CHF (about US$5,097 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Bern. Dukat 1718. Gekröntes Berner Wappen. Die Umschrift ist über dem Wappen durchgehend. Rv. Von einem Mann und einer Frau gehaltenes Tuch mit Inschrift, Wertangabe und Jahreszahl. Selten. Vorzüglich-FDC. (canton of Bern, ducat of 1718. Obverse: crowned city arms, motto around; reverse: a man and a woman support a cartouche containing the city name, value and date. Rare. Extremely fine-uncirculated.)"

This rare type is a reissue of a coin first minted in 1697.
