Great Britain 1800 4 pence

from the Stacks Bowers 2018 ANA sale, part of lot 23051

This specimen was part of lot 23051 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Philadelphia, August 2018), which sold for $432. The catalog description^[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. Maundy Set, 1800. 4 pieces in set. Each is well struck with varying degrees of attractive tone. Overall a nice looking set. PCGS MS-62 (2), AU-55 (1), & MS-63 (1) Secure Holders." This type was struck 1795 and 1800 only and, tho not rare, is difficult to find in nice condition. The silver groat, or fourpence, was introduced n medieval times.
