Stephen Album sale 43, lot 972

This specimen was lot 972 in Stephen Album sale 43 (Santa Rosa, CA, May 2022), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "BAHRAIN: Isa Bin Salman, 1961-1999, AV 100 dinars, 1978/AH1398, Opening of the New Headquarters Building of the Bahrain Monetary Agency, NGC graded Proof 63 ULTRA CAMEO." This design, commemorating an event of stupefying insignificance, was also used on KM 11 (gold 50 dinars). Bahrain, an island in the Persian Gulf between Qatar and Saudi Arabia, was long a protectorate of Great Britain. The first coins issued for the sheikhdom are dated 1965 and the state became fully independent in 1971.

Recorded mintage: 5,000 proofs.

Specification: 31.96 g, 0.917 fine gold.

Catalog reference: KM-12.
