Heritage sale 3035, lot 31791

This specimen was lot 31791 in Heritage sale 3035 (Long Beach, September 2014), where it sold for $2,115. The catalog description^[1] noted, "Tournai. Albert & Elizabeth gold 2 Albertins 1605 MS61 NGC. A shimmering example, well-struck and with defined features on both sides. Handsome, darkened patina and original mint bloom fully complete this excellent mint-state selection." This type is listed for Tournai for 1600-10. A double albertin d'or was four-thirds of a ducat. It was replaced after 1622 by the souverain d'or. Albert and Isabella were regents for Philip III in the Netherlands.
