This specimen was lot 44121 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Costa Mesa, CA, August 2021), where it sold for $720. The catalog description[1] noted, "[[Bulgaria|BULGARIA]]. 2 Leva, 1943. This denomination was previously struck in copper-nickel but wartime shortages forced its conversion to iron in 1941. This proved unsatisfactory, so the 1943 issue was done in nickel plated steel. Like many other wartime issues, dealer junk boxes are filled with worn or corroded examples but choice specimens are few.
