This specimen was lot 20810 in Heritage sale 3010 (Boston, August 2010), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "Christian V gold Ducat 1671/69, MS63 NGC, a magnificent example of this rare gold coinage with full mint brilliance and reflective surfaces. The strike is also exceptional with every detail sharp and clear. Rare and highly desirable in this superior quality." Like most gold issues of the seventeenth century this type, struck 1671-74, is rare and expensive. The initials "GK" stand for mintmaster Gottfried Kruger. The specimen shown here is considerably nicer than that shown in the SCWC. King Christian V ruled 1670-1699.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 3.49 g, .979 fine gold, .109 troy oz AGW.

Catalog reference: KM 340.1, Fr-140.
