Sweden Stacks Jan15-1654r.jpg

This specimen was lot 1654 in Stacks-Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2015), where it sold for $4,406.25. The catalog description[1] noted, "SWEDEN. 2 Daler Plate Money, 1718. Karl XII (1697-1718). 6.9 x 7.1 in. RARE (Tingstrom: 62 examples known including 12 pieces from the Nicobar). One transitional year type for Karl XII dated 1718 with triangular center stamp and three crowns and date in corner stamps. The first plates of Ulrika Eleonora continue with this style for a brief part of 1719; however, they were quickly replaced with a style displaying round central stamps and corner stamps bearing her monogram. All stamps well applied, with all four dates complete and legible. Light to medium brown patina. A very attractive plate. CHOICE VERY FINE." This type is noted for 1718 only.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: copper.

Catalog reference: KM-PM47; AAH-171; BT-B1.
