Heritage sale 3022, part of lot 27084

The second specimen was part of lot 27084 in Heritage sale 3022 (New York, January 2013), which sold for $1,410. The catalog description^[1] noted, "Republic Mixed Lot of Seventeen 20th Century Coins, Denominations range from 25 Centimos to 2 Colones. Many are UNC, a few are quite scarce. Sold as is, no return lot. The Cecil Webster Collection of Costa Rica." This copper-nickel type was struck in Philadelphia along with a twenty-five centimos (KM 171) and one colon (KM 173). It is the first fifty centimos released since the counterstamped issue of 1923. The colon was introduced in 1897 and reformed (devalued) in 1917 and 1920.

Recorded mintage: 700,000.
