Costa Rica 1935 colon
This specimen was part of lot 27084 in Heritage sale 3022 (New York, January 2013), which sold for $1,410. The catalog description[2] noted, "Republic Mixed Lot of Seventeen 20th Century Coins, Denominations range from 25 Centimos to 2 Colones. Many are UNC, a few are quite scarce. Sold as is, no return lot. The Cecil Webster Collection of Costa Rica." This copper-nickel type was struck in Philadelphia along with a fifty centimos (KM 172) and twenty-five centimos (KM 171). It was the first one colon released since the counterstamped issue of 1923. It is rather expensive in nice condition. The colon was introduced in 1897 and reformed (devalued) in 1917 and 1920.
