This specimen was lot 25104 in Heritage sale 3026 (Long Beach, October 2013), where it sold for $4,993.75. The catalog description[1] noted, "Victoria gold Mohur 1885-(C), MS63 NGC, lightly toned and original with full underlying luster, minimal handling in the obverse fields." This type was issued at Calcutta and Bombay 1877-1891 in a bewildering array of varieties, including proofs, off-metal strikes and restrikes. The type is the largest gold denomination. It is distinguished from the type issued 1862-75 by the obverse legend, "VICTORIA EMPRESS" instead of "VICTORIA QUEEN."
