Sincona sale 51, lot 3598
Genoa about 1700

This specimen was lot 3598 in Sincona sale 51 (Zurich, October 2018), where it sold for 450 CHF (about US$543 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Genova, Dogi Biennali, 1528-1797. 1 Lira 1648. Sehr schön. Schrötlingsfehler am Rand. (republic of Genoa, biennial doges, 1528-1797, one lira of 1648. Very fine, Flan defect at the edge.)"

This date is not listed in the SCWC, which lists a one lira for 1641-48 with mintmaster CS but does not provide a photograph. This example has mintmaster BN. The lira was worth twenty soldi.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 6.30 g, .659 fine silver, this specimen 6.96 g.
