This specimen was lot 22683 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Philadelphia, August 2018), where it sold for $168. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Saxe-Meiningen. 2 Mark, 1915. PCGS MS-64 Secure Holder. Struck to commemorate the death of Georg II. Carefully preserved and displaying a band of brilliance that runs across the obverse surfaces." This three mark was struck 1915 only. It is accompanied by a silver three mark. The last duke, Bernhard III, abdicated in the maelstrom of the collapse of the Wilhelmine regime in 1918.
Recorded mintage: 30,000 plus a few proofs.
Specification: 11.11 g, .900 fine silver.
