This specimen was lot 22649 in Heritage sale 3021 (New York, January 2013), where it sold for $5,581.25. The catalog description[2] noted, "James VI gold Rider (100 Shillings) 1599, AU50 NGC, boldly struck with full legends and subtle original orange-gold patina. One of the classic Scottish gold issues and a most attractive example." Friedberg lists this type for 1593-95, 1598-99 and 1601; the SCWC shows only the 1601. Like most gold coins of Scotland it is rare.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: gold.
