This specimen was lot 2302 in Sincona sale 11 (Zurich, May 2013), where it sold for 500 CHF (about US$619 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"PORTUGAL Maria II. 1834-1853. 5000 Reis 1851, Lissabon. Sehr schön. (kingdom of Portugal, Maria II, 1834-53, 5000 réis of 1851, Lisbon mint. Very fine.)"

This type, struck 1851 only, is a reduced weight version of the rare issue of 1838 and 1845 (KM 476.1).

Recorded mintage: 57,319.

Specification: 8.96 g, .917 fine gold, 23.5 mm diameter; this specimen 8.93 g.
