Sweden 1892-EB 2 kronor

from the Stack's Bowers 2019 ANA sale, lot 21738

This specimen was lot 21738 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Chicago, August 2019), where it sold for $1,260. The catalog description^[1] noted, "SWEDEN. 2 Kronor, 1892-EB. Stockholm Mint. Oscar II. PCGS MS-64 Gold Shield. A lightly toned near gem, this better date features a charming golden tone throughout and dazzling, problem-free surfaces. A premium quality piece for the grade assigned." Collecting Swedish coins is complicated by the multiple currency reforms the country underwent during the period. In 1873, the riksdaler species was dropped and 100 öre = one krona (the krona, at 7.5 g, .800 fine silver, was slightly smaller than the old riksdaler riksmynt). The type is noted for 1890-1904. This date is common in worn condition but scarce nice. The system adopted in 1873 is still in use today, the Swedes having recently declined to adopt the euro.
