This specimen was lot 23074 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Anaheim, CA, August 2016), where it sold for $616.88. The catalog description[1] noted, "SOUTHERN RHODESIA. 2 Shillings, 1954. NGC MS-61. KM-30. One year type. Population of one with four finer at NGC. Highly attractive sunset tone over considerably lustrous surfaces. A very pretty coin, especially given the copper nickel alloy the piece was struck in." Rhodesia, named after diamond magnate Cecil Rhodes, was created a self-governing colony of Britain in 1923. Coinage commenced in 1932. This half crown (2½ shillings) was issued for Elizabeth II in 1954 only and is among the final issues of the colony which was federated with Northern Rhodesia in 1956.
Recorded mintage: 1,200,000 plus 20 proofs.
