This specimen was lot 640 in Stacks-Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2015), where it sold for $616.88. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Halberstadt. Taler, 1629-CZ. Leopold Wilhelm von Osterreich (1627-48). NGC AU-53. St. Stephen depicted on the obverse. Dark toned. From the Rockaway Collection." This type is one of the few from this locale which are not very rare; it is only scarce. Other types of thalers are recorded for 1629. Halberstadt was annexed to Brandenburg in 1648.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: silver.
Catalog reference: KM 60, Dav-5347.
