This specimen was lot 7843 in Ponterio sale 152 (New York, January 2010), where it sold for $270.25. The catalog description[1] noted, "HONG KONG. Cent, 1863. RED AND BROWN UNCIRCULATED." This type was struck 1863-1900 in substantial numbers but is not easy to find in nice condition. Hong Kong was seized by the British from China in 1842 and held by them until its return in 1997. In Hong Kong, 100 cents = 1 dollar; sterling coinage was never used there.

Recorded mintage: 1,000,000.

Specification: bronze.

Catalog reference: KM 4.1.
