Heritage sale 3064, part of lot 33763
San Marino H3064-33763f.jpg

This specimen was part of lot 33763 in Heritage sale 3064 (Chicago, April 2018), which sold for $420. The catalog description[1] noted, "Trio of Certified Republic Lire 1935-R MS65 PCGS, ...3) 20 Lire, KM 11. Rome mint. A gem set of Lire with delicate silver toning. Comes with original mint case." This type was struck in Rome for the tiny republic of San Marino in 1931-38. The mintage is low but many were saved as souvenirs so the type is available in lightly circulated condition. It is accompanied by silver five (KM 9) and ten lire (KM 10). The obverse features St. Marinus.

Recorded mintage: 10,000.

Specification: 15 g, .835 fine silver, 35.5 mm diameter, reeded edge. Gigante notes that a few were struck at 20 g, .600 fine.

Catalog reference: KM-11; Gig-5.
