Solothurn 1624 batzen
This specimen was lot 4451 in Sincona sale 95 (Zürich, October 2024), where it sold for 1,100 CHF (about US$ including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SCHWEIZ Solothurn, Stadt und Kanton, Batzen 1624, Solothurn. Avers mit Mzz. Öchslein in der Umschrift nach MONETA. Selten. Gutes sehr schön. Rauer Schrötling und kleiner Randfehler. Exemplar der Auktion SINCONA 23, Zürich, Mai 2015, Los 3723. Zum Münzzeichen Öchslein, siehe Katalog SINCONA, Auktion 91 (Sammlung Konrad Bürki, 1. Teil), Seite 162. (Switzerland, canton of Solothurn, batzen of 1624, Solothurn mint, obverse with the mintmark after "MONETA". Rare, Good Very Fine, Rough flan and small edge flaw.)"
This type was struck 1622-24, 1630-32, 1637-42 in numerous varieties. Numista says this year is dated "16Z4" but we see an ordinary "1624" on this specimen. St. Ursus is mentioned ("SANCTVS · VRSVS · MART · 1624·") but not depicted on the reverse. This denomination was also struck in klippe format (KM 12).
