Stephen Album sale 47, lot 2051

This specimen was lot 2051 in Stephen Album sale 47 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2023), where it sold for $204. The catalog description[1] noted, "ZAND: Karim Khan, 1753-1779, AV 1/4 mohur, Qazwin, AH1186, type C; date on obverse, VF." The Zand dynasty, founded by Karim Khan Zand, conquered and ruled most of Afsharid Iran (except Khorasan) in the eighteenth century. Karim Khan's successors lacked his ability and the state soon crumbled under Qajar attacks. This type was struck AH 1177-1193 at Isfahan (KM 525.1), Kashan (KM 525.2), Qazvin (KM 525.5, shown here), Rasht (KM 525.6), Yazd (KM 525.9) and Tabriz (KM 530.7).
