Heritage sale 3089, lot 33251

This specimen was lot 33251 in Heritage sale 3089 (Dallas, TX, January 2021), where it sold for $2,100. The catalog description[1] noted, "Switzerland. Zurich. Canton Taler 1559 AU53 NGC. Benefitting from a sound strike, this offering demonstrates significant argent luster retained within the protected areas, overlaid metallic tones completing the visual appeal. Scarcely offered in such high quality. Sold with old Dr. Hans Nussbaum, Zürich ticket. Ex. Allen Moretti Swiss Collection." Davenport calls this one year type a klippe altho klippes are traditionally square. Several other thalers were struck in Zurich in 1559 (Dav-8778, -8780) along with multiples.
