This specimen was lot 1394 in Künker sale 293 (Osnabruck, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €600 (about US$809 including buyer's fees). The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, <blockquote>"''WORMS, STADT, Reichstaler 1617, auf die 100-Jahrfeier der Reformation. RR Henkelspur, sehr schön.'' ([[Germany]], city of Worms, thaler of 1617, on the centennial of the Reformation. Rare, mount mark, very fine.)"</blockquote> This rare type commemorated the Reformation. The date is in a chronogram on the reverse legend. Worms neighbored Pfalz but was never part of it, being a free city. It was destroyed by the French in 1689 and never recovered its former importance. It was annexed to France 1801-15 but then passed to Hesse-Darmstadt.
